Summary

Crandall Arambula prepared a preliminary urban design plan for five downtown streets for the Central Albany Revitalization Advisory (CARA) Board. The design plan included the Oregon State Highway 20 Lyon Street/Ellsworth Street couplet through the downtown.

Based upon a Crandall Arambula-designed pilot project on Broadalbin Street that resulted from the firm’s Central Albany Land Use and Transportation Plan, the CARA approved funding for a Downtown Streetscape Project with improvements such as new street lighting, sidewalks, and street trees. The Downtown Streetscape Project planning process included a robust public engagement process that included input from numerous stakeholders, including the ODOT representatives.

Crandall Arambula collaborated with the City of Albany Public Works Department to prepare a 30% design plan. Design and funding of all streets included both above-ground and below-ground utility improvements. Construction was completed in November 2018.
